DIGITAL PRODUCTION

Bold Theatre was founded at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, when physical performance opportunities shrank dramatically and the global theatre community was debating whether digital theatre qualified as .
“real theatre.”.
For us, that debate was irrelevant. Instead of asking what theatre should be, we asked how we could reconnect with artists who were experiencing mental health strain due to financial instability, isolation, grief, and uncertainty..Digital space became our stage.

THE BOLD MEMOIR SHOW (2020)

This was our first digital project — a five-episode online performance series featuring:
-Live streamed performances
-Pre-recorded works submitted by artists
-Personal storytelling including monologues, spoken word, and music
-Live theatre showcases
-Screen performance projects
-Monologue and scene presentations
-Industry-style rehearsals
The show attracted an international audience and became the foundation of our global collaborations.

  • INTERCULTURAL DIGITAL COLLABORATIONS

Following the Memoir Show, artists from different parts of the world began engaging in deeper exchange. This led to the creation of BOLD STUDIO Workshops, a digital lab model where artists shared methodologies, devising processes, and cultural performance approaches..

EN BORRADOR teatro en construcción (Paraguay)

    Director: Paola Irún

Paola Irún is a leading Paraguayan theatre director and founder of EN BORRADORteatro en construcción,an experimental devised theatre company known for collaborative creation processes.
She led Bold Theatre’s first two-week digital devising workshop, which significantly reshaped the structure of our mentorship programs..

They collaborated with Bold artists on Toshanisha, a digital devised piece blending Brazilian performance aesthetics with Kenyan youth narratives and recognized within independent theatre circles.

    Adam Parker (Los Angeles, USA)
American director Adam Parker conducted digital Shakespeare workshops focusing on text, embodiment, and virtual staging.

These workshops evolved into the Shengspeare Project, beginning with “Richi wa Utat”, a Sheng adaptation of Richard III exploring power and corruption within a Kenyan urban context.

David Diamond— La MaMa Umbria Directors Workshop (Italy)
David Diamond, Director of the La MaMa Umbria International Directors’ Symposium, mentored Bold leadership on ensemble structure, artistic direction, and company building.
La MaMa also supported collaborative initiatives including participation in their Downtown Variety Show and development support for Bold projects.

    Dreams kwa Mathree
A collaborative development supported by La MaMa networks.
A story about Kenyan youth traveling in a “mathree” (matatu) to what they believe is an audition — only to discover the journey symbolizes deeper questions of ambition, risk, and survival.
